Samme – Geoscientist

Profile from STEMNET’s Leading Light series of a new generation of young people using their STEM skills to push the boundaries, and to make the world a better and more exciting place to live.

“Young people ask questions that adults never think of and every time I go to a school it reminds me why I do what I do.”

Samme Brough

Samme Brough is a geoscientist for Ikon Science, world leaders in the field of ‘rock physics’ for the energy industry. Never before has the sourcing of new energy supplies been so important.

Samme builds accurate computer generated models of the earth’s many sub surfaces which gives energy companies the information they need to find oil and gas supplies effectively and in an environmentally friendly way.

Samme is pictured at a disused quarry in Hertfordshire – understanding how to drill effectively through rock is vital to the future of the energy industry.
