Diplomas

In England the previous Government introduced the Diploma is a new choice of qualification that combines class work with hands on experience. Taking a Diploma could keep your options open by giving you the knowledge and skills that you will need for college, university or work; it doesn't train you for a particular job.

The Diploma does not replace existing options like GCSEs, A-levels or Apprenticeships. In fact, you can take GCSEs or A levels alongside a Diploma, and probably will if you are in Years 10 and 11.

Take a look at the document below to see a table of the Diploma levels and where they can lead on to.

Which subjects?

There are fourteen  Diploma routes available, including the following which are particularly linked to science and maths subjects:

although some may not be available in your local area.

How long?

Diplomas will generally take two years, studying full-time, although if you are doing a Foundation or Higher Diploma aged 16 or over, you may be able to complete it in less time. Alternatively, you can study for a Diploma part-time if you have a job or other commitments.
