Daniel’s photo diary

Daniel’s photo diary illustrates his work with Camira Fabrics to show you the work he carries out on a daily basis. Check it out and see if this is a job you may be interested in for yourself.

Name: Daniel Young

Job title: Quality Technician – Flammability

Qualifications: BSc (Hons) Forensic and Analytical chemistry – Huddersfield University

Daniel’s responsibilities include a wide range of flammability tests; including the main UK contract standard, crib 5, shown here.

In this picture the crib is being lit. Once alight, a number of factors are recorded which determine if the fabric will pass or fail the test.

A crib 5 test is a composite test, which means it not only tests the fabric but also the foam behind the fabric.

Fabrics which go into hospitals, hotel bedrooms, and public buildings (to name but a few!) must meet the crib 5 criteria.
