Between December 2010 and February 2011, Future Morph visited 6 different schools in London and the surrounding area. This gave us the opportunity to speak to over 300 students and get their thoughts and ideas about our new ideas for the site and also listen to their comments and feedback about the current state of the site and their preferred way of using it.
The students were all from Key Stage 3 and between the ages of 11-14 years. Students were given a number of tasks to complete including matching a range of job titles to 8 new theme ideas, completing a card-sorting exercise where they looked at the article ideas for each of these new themes and put them into their order of preference, and then coming up with their own theme idea as well as 2 article titles and a career that would fit into this theme. On completion of the tasks, students were then introduced to the Future Morph site if they were not already familiar with it and then given time to explore the site for themselves and complete a questionnaire for us with their feedback.
Interesting results from the survey are shown below.
a) When asked what their favourite subject at school was, 25% said PE, 10% Science, 7% English and only 6% Maths;
b) 35% of students said that they liked science, compared to 27% liking maths;
c) 45% of students said that Future Morph had made them look at science or maths differently and 67% had found jobs on the site that had been of interest to them including a photographer, games designer, and criminal intelligence analyst coming up as some of the most popular.
d) Only 1% of the students we visited had used the site before, but a huge 78% would visit it again and 77% would recommend it to their friends!
Thanks to all those involved who took part in these visits and do have a look at the materials and resources that were used for these visits below so that you can have your own Future Morph session in your school.
